This song is about one of my favorite feelings. The feeling of warm sunshine on your face, especially if you are having a gloomy day, can be so healing. I have always loved the song "You Are My Sunshine" and the words just fit so perfectly with the beat. I learned later that Jimmie Davis, the songwriter attributed to writing "You Are My Sunshine" was also a politician and a supporter of segregation. I think it's amazing that so many artists, especially black artists such as Nat King Cole and Ray Charles, have taken a song written by someone who didn't have the best ideals and made it their own, giving it new life and meaning.
