As an exercise in attempting to write more often, the bands sousaphone player Maxwell wrote Sockless and dismissed it as a fun lopsided 8.5 bar loop, and never planned for it to be performed. After sharing it with the band it was agreed on that it'd be a fun slow tune that was a good vehicle for improvising on, and provided an opportunity to briefly explore low-volume minimalist funk that contrasted excellently with the regular high energy and acrobatic arrangements that you normally see the band play.
